Pierre de Fermat Google Logosu

Today, 17 August 2011, is the Birthday of Pierre de Fermat who was French Lawyer and an amateur mathematician who made noble contributions to analytics geometry probability and optics. So Google is celebrating his birth anniversary by a Google Doodle on its homepage. Check out the details after the jump. The Google Doodle is demonstrating a class room board on which an equation is written with Google. When you hover your mouse over the Doodle the text comes up “I have discovered a truly marvelous proof of this theorem, which this doodle is too small to contain”.

Pierre de Fermat was born on 17 August 1601 or 1607 and died on 8 – 12 January 1665.

Fermat was the first person known to have evaluated the integral of general power functions. In number theory, Fermat studied Pell’s equation, perfect numbers, amicable numbers and what would later become Fermat numbers. It was while researching perfect numbers that he discovered the little theorem. He invented a factorization method as well.

He worked a lot in the field of Mathematics and done wonders. His work will never be forgotten by the world. He died at Castres, Tarn.
